"Their bright smiles reflected their happiness and satisfaction with the learning experience. We wish them success in their future endeavours, and hope they continue to serve society with compassion, dedication, and a smile."
We are delighted to share that on 1 July 2026, a cohort of college students successfully completed their internship with Smile With Shine Welfare Society. Over the course of their internship, they gained valuable practical knowledge, learned about community service, and developed a deeper understanding of what it takes to work with vulnerable and underprivileged communities on the ground.
This post is a short, joyful record of how their internship journey ended — and a public thank-you to the students who chose to spend part of their college years with us.
The Internship Journey
The students actively participated in various organisational activities and showed great enthusiasm to learn. We were happy to guide and support them throughout their internship journey — helping them enhance their skills, confidence, and understanding of social work practices.
This is not a small thing. A grassroots welfare society is not a controlled classroom. It is a Tuesday breakfast drive at sunrise, a doorstep learning centre in a slum lane, a visit to an elderly resident with no family nearby. The students showed up for all of it — not as observers, but as participants. That is the only way this kind of work is really learned.
Small Gifts, Bright Smiles
As a token of appreciation and encouragement, we presented small gifts to the students on their completion day. Their bright smiles reflected their happiness and satisfaction with the learning experience.
A gift on a completion day is a small gesture, but the intent behind it is a large one: to say clearly, on the record, thank you for the hours you gave, thank you for the enthusiasm you brought, and take with you our best wishes for what comes next.
A Beautiful Gesture in Return
The internship journey concluded on an especially joyful note. The students, in turn, presented a beautiful gift to our organisation — a thoughtful gesture that neither we nor our team had expected.
Their happiness and smiling faces made the occasion truly memorable. It was inspiring to witness their growth, enthusiasm and positive spirit throughout the internship — and even more so to see them close it with such warmth and grace.
Moments From the Day
Some moments do not translate into paragraphs. They are better watched. Below are two short clips from the internship completion — small gifts, warm words, and the students' beautiful gesture in return.

Where the Students Worked With Us
For readers considering an internship or a college programme evaluating placement partners, here is a brief map of where interns typically work with Smile With Shine:
Where interns rotate
- Tuesday Breakfast Drives — pre-dawn kitchen, on-road serving, roadside stops, coolie addas. The most on-ground week of the internship.
- Community Learning Centres — sitting in on doorstep classroom sessions for out-of-school children in slums and migrant colonies across Telangana.
- Elderly & Widow Welfare — home visits, ration support and companionship.
- Educational Kits Drive — annual distribution of school kits at the start of the academic year.
- Fundraising & Storytelling — photography, blog writing, small campaign planning.
- Documentation & Data — recording who we served, at what cost, on which day.

Why Internships Matter to a Grassroots NGO
An internship at a large national NGO or a corporate CSR arm is one kind of experience. An internship at a grassroots welfare society is a different one — and, we would gently argue, an important one.
Here, an intern is not one of a hundred. Here, an intern sits with the founder on a kerb at 7 a.m., serves the same warm plate of breakfast that any senior office bearer is serving, and gets to see for themselves how a small organisation actually keeps its promise to a Hyderabad pavement, week after week.
For a young person considering a career in the social sector — or, honestly, any career that requires empathy and consistency — that view is worth more than a certificate. It is what stays with you when you go on to become a corporate manager, a policy analyst, a school principal, a nurse, a lawyer, or a founder yourself.
Thank You, Dear Students
We will close this post the way we ended the day itself — with a small, sincere thank-you.
Thank you for spending part of your college years with a small welfare society in Secunderabad. Thank you for showing up with enthusiasm on days that were long and hot and busy. Thank you for the questions you asked, the notes you took, and the effort you put into every drive, every session, every visit.
We wish you a bright future filled with success, compassion, and purpose. Stay in touch. Come visit whenever you are back in Hyderabad. And if life ever takes you towards a career in the sector, we hope you will remember what you learned on our streets — that consistency, dignity and a small warm gesture can go further than any single grand plan.
