One Year of Smiles: Our 1st Anniversary Lunch, Shared With the Community

Founder Smt. Grace Mani being felicitated with a memento at the Smile With Shine Welfare Society 1st Anniversary Celebration 2025-2026, Hyderabad, 6 July 2026
"To celebrate the 1st Anniversary of Smile With Shine Welfare Society, we all joined together to sponsor lunch and spread smiles, love, and hope. ♥🙏"

Today, Smile With Shine Welfare Society turned one year old. We spent our first anniversary the way we spent our first Tuesday morning — on the ground, with the community, sharing a meal.

There was no stage. There was no speech list. There was a long table, warm food, more supporters than we could count, and a room full of the very people who had walked with us for the last twelve months. This blog is a short, joyful record of that afternoon.

Sponsored by the Community, For the Community

The lunch was not funded by an event budget. It was sponsored by our own supporters — donors, volunteers, well-wishers, family friends of the organisation. Every plate you see in this recap was paid for by someone who chose to mark our first year not with a card, but with a meal for a family that needed one.

That, more than any speech we could have made, is what one year of Smile With Shine has been about.

The People at the Table

The families we serve are not strangers to us. Many of them we have met on a Tuesday breakfast drive at 7 a.m. Many of the children have received an Educational Kit from us at the start of the academic year. Many of the elderly at the table are people we visit at home in Vivekananda Nagar, Mallapur and Nacharam every month.

Today, they were not beneficiaries. They were our guests, on our anniversary, at our table.

A Year, in a Sentence

Since July 2025, in twelve short months:

What one year has held

  • Tuesday morning breakfast drives — running weekly, week after week, on the streets of Hyderabad.
  • An annual Educational Kits distribution for 50+ underprivileged children.
  • Monthly programmes for the elderly, widows and single mothers we walk beside.
  • Community Learning Centres for out-of-school children in slums and migrant colonies.
  • A Father's Day clothes distribution for orphan and needy fathers.
  • The Bharatiya Seva Ratna National Award for our founder, Smt. Grace Mani.
  • A trip to Delhi under Smile Foundation's Empowering Grassroots Initiative.
  • A cohort of college students who completed their internship with us.

And, quietly running through all of it — the same principle we started with: serve every person with dignity, and never treat a meal as charity.

What the Lunch Actually Looked Like

Warm food. Long steel plates. Water in glass jugs. Older members served first, then children, then the rest of the room. Volunteers moved between tables, filling plates, refilling glasses, sitting down for a minute of conversation before moving on to the next family.

No queue. No numbered tokens. No banner behind the head table. Just the same principle from every Tuesday morning: we walk to the person.

Smiles, Love, and Hope

There is a phrase that has been quietly written on every anniversary poster, every WhatsApp message, and now every table we set:

Every smile matters. Every life counts. Every act of kindness creates hope.

That is what the afternoon was. Smiles across the room. Love in the way plates were placed by hand. Hope in the fact that a small welfare society in Secunderabad had made it, together, to its first year — and would keep going.

Thank You

Thank you to every donor who sponsored a plate, a table, or the entire lunch. Thank you to every volunteer who cooked, carried, served, and cleaned. Thank you to every supporter and well-wisher who could not be there in person but sent a message, a call, a small note. Thank you to the families who came, sat with us, and made the room feel like home.

This first year has belonged to all of you as much as it has belonged to our founders and team. The next year will too.

Year Two Starts Tomorrow

Tomorrow is Tuesday. The kitchen begins before sunrise. The vehicle is on the road by 6:30 a.m. The breakfast drive that started this journey a year ago will roll into the streets of Hyderabad again — the same way it did last Tuesday, the same way it will next Tuesday, the same way it will for as many Tuesdays as we can manage.

If you would like to walk with us into Year Two, there is a place for you at every table we set. Sponsor a plate. Sponsor a drive. Volunteer on a morning. Send us a message. All of it counts.
