A 10-Month Prayer Answered: A Sewing Machine, Leggings and a College Bag for a Family in Need

Smile With Shine Welfare Society handing over a sewing machine to a needy family in Hyderabad, sponsored by Smt. Sarika Garu — with leggings for the differently-abled daughter and a college kit for the son
“For ten long months, a needy family had been asking us for a sewing machine. Today, by the grace of God and the generosity of our sponsors, the wait finally ended.”

Some requests stay with you. They do not go away just because you cannot fulfil them today. For the past ten months, a needy family in Hyderabad had been quietly, patiently asking Smile With Shine Welfare Society for one thing — a sewing machine. Not for a wedding. Not for a gift. For a livelihood. Something they could set up at home and use to earn a modest, steady income for a family that had almost run out of options.

We could not fulfil their request for a long time. It weighed on us. Every visit to the family, every phone call, every home follow-up carried that unfinished promise with it. Today, by the grace of God and with the generous support of our sponsors, we were finally able to deliver that sewing machine — and much more — to the family.

“This support will help them earn an income and move towards a more secure and self-reliant future.”

The Family We Are Standing With

Behind every request is a story, and this one is heavier than most. This family has been walking a very difficult road:

For a family in this situation, the difference between “surviving” and “sinking” is often one tool — one machine, one asset, one small income stream that can be worked from home without leaving the father, without leaving the differently-abled daughter, without pulling the son out of college.

That is what the sewing machine is. Not a gift. A tool of self-reliance.

What We Delivered Today

Today’s support was not a single item. Because four kind-hearted sponsors came forward together, we were able to hand over a full family-support package in one go:

🧵 One Brand-New Sewing Machine

A USHA Janome sewing machine for the mother to use at home for tailoring work and earn a steady, self-reliant income.

👗 Leggings for the Differently-Abled Daughter

Comfortable, appropriate clothing for a daughter whose mobility needs are different from most.

🎒 A College Bag for the Son

A sturdy new bag, strong enough to carry through a full academic year of classes.

📚 Books and Stationery for the Son

So that a family already stretched thin does not have to choose between a father’s medicine and a son’s syllabus.

Every one of these items, in isolation, is a small thing. Together, on the same day, in the hands of the same family, they add up to something much larger: a family that can breathe a little easier tomorrow than they could yesterday.

Heartfelt Thanks to Smt. Sarika Garu

Our sincere and heartfelt thanks go, first, to Smt. Sarika Garu for so generously sponsoring the sewing machine for this needy family.

For ten months we had been carrying this request. It was Sarika Garu who came forward at the right moment — with kindness, compassion, and the willingness to act. That timing matters. A family that has been waiting for ten months does not just receive a machine; they receive a signal that they are not forgotten, that there is still someone in this city who will show up for them.

💐 Thank You, Sarika Garu

“Sarika Garu, this sewing machine is not just a gift — it is an opportunity for the family to earn a livelihood and build a better future. Thank you for your generous heart, and for bringing hope and happiness to a family in need. May God bless you abundantly for your support and kindness.”

Because of her, the mother of this family will now be able to take on tailoring work at home. A steady income, however modest, will begin to enter the household. Bills that were once impossible will become manageable. A son will stay in college. A daughter will be looked after. A father who is fighting cancer will not have to carry the additional weight of watching his family go without.

That is what one act of sponsorship can quietly do.

Thank You to All Four Sponsors

While the sewing machine was sponsored by Smt. Sarika Garu, the rest of today’s support — the leggings for the differently-abled daughter, the college bag, the books, and the stationery for the son — was made possible by three more kind-hearted sponsors who chose to stand with this family on the same day.

To all four sponsors, on behalf of Smile With Shine Welfare Society and, more importantly, on behalf of the family:

Thank you. Thank you for your compassion. Thank you for your generosity. Thank you for choosing to say “yes” at a moment when this family needed it most. Thank you for making today the day that a ten-month wait finally ended.

You did not just donate items. You gave a mother a way to earn, a daughter a small piece of comfort, a son a real chance to keep studying, and a father who is fighting cancer one less thing to worry about.

Why a Sewing Machine Changes Everything

For a family in crisis, a sewing machine is not a decoration on the wall. It is a livelihood asset — a tool that quietly turns the corner of a room into a small business.

This is why Smile With Shine believes so strongly in livelihood-support interventions in addition to food, shelter and education. Feeding a family for a day is important. Helping a family feed itself for a lifetime is transformative.

The Bigger Picture: Standing With Cancer-Affected Families

We meet families like this often — a serious illness in the household, a differently-abled child, a student in the middle of their studies, and a parent trying to hold it all together. It is easy to feel that the situation is too big to help with, that “we cannot fix all of it”.

We cannot. But we can remove one weight at a time.

Every one of these is a specific, concrete decision. Every one of them is sponsorable by an ordinary person. That is the whole model. You do not need to be a large corporation to change a family’s trajectory. You only need to say, on the right day, “I would like to sponsor this one thing.”

How You Can Sponsor a Family Like This

A Closing Word

Ten months is a long time to wait for a sewing machine. It is a longer time to keep hoping that someone will finally hear you.

Today, that hope was rewarded. And the credit — every rupee of it — belongs to the four sponsors who chose this family, and especially to Smt. Sarika Garu, whose generosity made the central request finally come true.

To the family: your wait is over, but your journey is just beginning. We will keep walking with you.

To Sarika Garu and the other three sponsors: may God bless you abundantly for your support and kindness. The smile on this family today will be with them for years — and it is your smile too.
