The First Tuesday of July: The July 7 Breakfast Drive in Hyderabad

Smile With Shine Welfare Society serving warm breakfast on a Hyderabad roadside on Tuesday, July 7, 2026
"The anniversary was on Monday. Tuesday came like it always does — with a kitchen before sunrise, a vehicle on the road by 6:30 a.m., and a warm plate for anyone who was hungry."

The calendar turned to July 2026, and the first Tuesday of the month arrived just one day after our 1st Anniversary celebration. There was no pause. No break. On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Smile With Shine Welfare Society was back on the streets of Hyderabad by sunrise for its weekly Roadside Breakfast Drive — the same way it has been every Tuesday for a year.

By the end of the morning, more than 200 people had eaten a warm, freshly prepared breakfast. Daily wage workers at coolie addas. Homeless individuals on pavements. Roadside dwellers. Anyone who walked up and said they were hungry. This is a short field recap of that morning — the first Tuesday of a new year of service.

The Drive, in Numbers

Two hundred meals. One Tuesday. Roughly ₹20,000 worth of freshly cooked food, drinking water, fuel, packaging and transportation — funded entirely by supporters who choose to be a part of this work, week after week. The same number as last week. The same as the week before. That consistency is what makes this drive what it is.

5:30 a.m. — The Kitchen, the Vehicle, the Road

Monday, July 6, was our 1st anniversary celebration — a long afternoon with the community, a shared lunch, smiles and gratitude. Tuesday, July 7, began the same way every other Tuesday begins: the kitchen was lit before sunrise, the food was cooked fresh in batches, packed into hot containers, drinking water was filled, plates and spoons were loaded. By 6:30 a.m. the team vehicle was on the road.

We have said it before — most recently in Before the City Wakes — but it bears repeating: the early-morning window is sacred to this work. A meal served at sunrise reaches someone who is just starting their working day. A meal served three hours later misses most of them. Year Two of the drive starts with the same lesson Year One taught us.

The People We Served

The July 7 drive moved through Hyderabad's familiar coolie adda stops and roadside gathering points — the same spots the team has been visiting every Tuesday for the past year. Among the people we served:

Each plate was handed over the same way it has always been — with eye contact, with a kind word, with the quiet dignity that defines every Tuesday morning.

The Team on the Ground

As with every Tuesday, the drive was led personally by our team:

They were on the ground the day after their own anniversary celebration. Not resting. Not delegating. Standing at the back of the vehicle, placing warm plates into waiting hands, filling glasses of water, meeting each person as they have done for fifty-two Tuesdays in a row.

The anniversary was on Monday. On Tuesday, the same hands that were cutting the cake were serving breakfast at a coolie adda. That is what Year Two looks like.

The Way Each Plate Is Handed Over

This principle has been at the heart of the drive from the very beginning: we do not run a queue. We walk to the person. The team carries the food and water along the pavement, the waiting corner, the resting spot — wherever someone is. Each plate is gently placed into a person's hand. A few words are exchanged. Eye contact is offered. The plate is received as a meal, not as a hand-out.

That principle has not changed in a year. It will not change in Year Two.

What ₹100 Carries on a Tuesday Morning

₹100 funds one warm breakfast plate on a Tuesday drive, end to end:

A full 200-plate Tuesday drive costs roughly ₹20,000. Every rupee comes from supporters who trust us to show up, week after week, and serve with integrity.

Year Two, First Tuesday

The anniversary blog from Monday ended with a line:

Tomorrow is Tuesday. The kitchen begins before sunrise. The vehicle is on the road by 6:30 a.m.

That was not a metaphor. It was a plan. And on July 7, 2026, that plan was executed — the same way it was executed 52 Tuesdays before it, the same way it will be executed next Tuesday, and the Tuesday after that.

Year One ended with a community lunch and a room full of gratitude. Year Two began with a warm plate on a Hyderabad roadside at sunrise. Both are the same work. Both are what Smile With Shine is here to do.
