A Stethoscope Appeal for K. Manjula (BPT) & a Follow-Up Visit to Sruthi’s Family After the Sewing Machine

Smile With Shine Welfare Society logo — two supporter updates from Hyderabad, 17 July 2026

Serving humanity with Dignity, Equality & Compassion

Two short updates from Smile With Shine Welfare Society today — one is a fresh appeal to our well-wishers, and the other is a follow-up on a story we shared last week.

The first is about a young woman named K. Manjula, who is in her third year of a Bachelor of Physiotherapy programme and urgently needs a stethoscope to continue her clinical training. The second is about Sruthi’s family, who received a sewing machine from our team a few days ago — and whose home we visited this week to see how they are settling in with it.

Both updates are short. Both are honest. Both are the kind of thing we like to share on this blog — the ask and the answer, side by side.

🩺 An Urgent Appeal — A Stethoscope for K. Manjula (21), BPT Student

Dear Well-Wishers,

We request your support for our girl, K. Manjula (21 years), who is pursuing BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy) at G.V. Narayana College of Physiotherapy, Vanasthalipuram, Hyderabad.

She urgently needs a Stethoscope 🩺 for her studies and clinical training. Kindly support our girl and help her continue her education and achieve her dream of serving others through healthcare. 🙏

Please contact: +91 73960 96830

Who is Manjula?

K. Manjula is a 21-year-old student pursuing BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy) at G.V. Narayana College of Physiotherapy, Vanasthalipuram, Hyderabad. She is one of the young women whose journey Smile With Shine has been walking alongside — a first-generation college-goer working towards a career in healthcare.

What she needs

A stethoscope — a basic clinical instrument every physiotherapy student is expected to own from their clinical postings onwards. It is not optional. It is required for auscultation, patient assessment and every ward posting she is placed in.

For most students, the family covers this cost quietly. For Manjula, one instrument stands between her and her clinical rotations — and that is where we are asking our supporters to step in.

How you can help

If you would like to sponsor Manjula’s stethoscope (or contribute towards it), please reach out directly:

Contributions of ₹500 and above receive a tax-deductible receipt.

One stethoscope. One young woman’s dream of serving others through healthcare. That is the full ask.

🧵 Follow-Up: A Home Visit to Sruthi’s Family After the Sewing Machine

“As a team, we visited Sruthi’s family after providing a sewing machine. It was heartwarming to see their happiness and gratitude.

This sewing machine will be very useful for the family and will help them earn a livelihood and support their daily needs. Seeing their smiles and hope gives us great satisfaction.”

From the field — the Smile With Shine team’s follow-up visit to Sruthi’s family, after the sewing machine was handed over.

Just a few days ago, we shared the story of a family that had been waiting for a sewing machine for ten months — a request that finally reached the finish line thanks to Smt. Sarika Garu and three other kind-hearted sponsors. The full story is here: A 10-Month Prayer Answered — A Sewing Machine, Leggings and a College Bag for a Family in Need.

This week, our team went back — not for another distribution, but simply to visit the family at home. A follow-up is not photogenic work. There is no banner, no ceremony. It is a quiet visit to see whether the machine is being used, whether the family is well, and whether anything else has come up since we handed it over.

What we saw

Why the follow-up matters

At Smile With Shine, the handover is not the end of the story. We believe every distribution is only worth as much as the follow-up that comes after it. A sewing machine that sits unused in a corner is a photograph, not an intervention. A sewing machine that is stitching cloth by the end of the week — that is what “livelihood support” actually means.

Seeing the machine being used, the mother earning through it, and the family visibly happier is the real return on the sponsor’s rupee. And that is the update we wanted to bring back to everyone who was part of making the sewing machine happen.

Why Both Stories Live in One Post

We are sharing these two updates side by side on purpose. Manjula’s story is the ask. Sruthi’s family’s story is the answer. Every sponsor who has ever wondered “what actually happens after I contribute?” — the follow-up visit above is what happens. And the appeal above is where the next chapter of that story begins.

If either story moved you, both are open — for a contribution or for a phone call.

Q: What was the purpose of the follow-up visit?

To check that the sewing machine is being used, to see how the family is settling in with the new livelihood tool, and to close the loop with the sponsors who made it possible. At Smile With Shine, every distribution is followed by a home visit — the handover is not the end of the story.
